Garbage, Recycling, and Compostables Service Contract with Recology King County
OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

In 2023, Public Works began a procurement process for a new Garbage, Recycling and Compostables Service Contract. Attached is a summary of the procurement process, and the final negotiated rates and contract resulting from the process. The Public Works Department is providing this staff report to provide a brief overview prior to requesting approval to execute the new contract with services starting January 1, 2026.

OUTCOMES:
The effective date of the new Garbage, Recycling, and Compostables Service contract with Recology King County, if approved by the City Council, will be January 1, 2026, with a 10-year term running through Dec 31, 2035. The City may, at its sole discretion, extend the contract once for a two-year period through December 31, 2037. Staff and Legal counsel from the City and Recology King County have reviewed and finalized the terms and conditions of the contract for the City Council's consideration and approval. The contract and rates are in Attachment B.
