OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

recommendation

Staff recommend that the City Council adopt an ordinance amending the Redmond Zoning Code (RZC) to clarify various requirements to improve usability of the RZC for staff, customers, and community members. See Attachment C, pp. 1-2, for a summary of the code amendments included in this package.

 

The Planning Commission reviewed and held a public hearing on this package of amendments and recommends approval.

                     Relevant Plans/Policies:

                     Redmond 2050 PI-17: “Prepare and maintain development regulations that implement Redmond’s Comprehensive Plan and include all significant development requirements. Ensure that the regulations are clearly written and can be efficiently and effectively carried out. Avoid duplicative or inconsistent requirements. Ensure that the development regulations can be accessed, understood, and used to the greatest extent possible by all people.”

                     Redmond 2050 CR-34: “Support, develop, and implement building and energy codes and policies that reduce energy waste, reduce the embodied carbon of materials, reduce stormwater runoff, phase out natural gas use, and expand clean energy.”

                     Economic Development Strategic plan

Each year City staff reviews potential amendments to the RZC and collects the “minor” amendments into an annual code cleanup package.

 

 

OUTCOMES:

The outcome of the annual code cleanup package is to correct typos and references, codify administrative interpretations, and clarify ambiguities in the code.

A draft was published on Redmond’s Annual Code Cleanup website on June 3. The Planning Commission had a study session on June 10 and a public hearing on June 24, 2026.

The draft was published on the Redmond website and published in city’s monthly newsletters.
