II.                     DEPARTMENT CONTACTS

Erika Vandenbrande, Deputy City Administrator, 425-556-2457
Jill Smith, Economic Development Manager, 425-556-2448

III.                     DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND

The Port of Seattle has approved the City’s application for grant funding for targeted tradeshow participation, along with updates and new elements to the City’s comprehensive marketing and media suite of materials, to enhance Redmond’s economic development efforts.

The City of Redmond will work collaboratively with our partners, OneRedmond and the Economic Development Council of Seattle & King County, to implement the activities included in the Scope of Work identified in Attachment A.  The grants are available through the Port of Seattle Economic Development Partnership Program to support local community economic development activities.  The second year program will provide 38 King County cities per capita funding to advance local economic development throughout the region.

IV.                     PREVIOUS DISCUSSIONS HELD

The Council was first notified about this opportunity for a second round of Port of Seattle Economic Development funding at the September 12, 2017, Planning and Public Works committee meeting.  In addition, when the economic development materials created from the original 2016 Port grant were shared at the September 26, 2017, Finance, Administration and Communications committee meeting, the Council was informed that the second grant application opportunity was forthcoming.

V.                     IMPACT

A.                     Service/Delivery:

Approval of this agreement will enhance and integrate the marketing materials used by the City and its partners to better represent both Redmond and our region.

B.                     Fiscal Note:

This grant will increase the resources available for economic development by $60,560.

VI.                     ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Do not approve the agreement.  If the agreement is not approved, Redmond will not receive the additional $60,560 in funding and support to enhance our economic development efforts.

VII.                     TIME CONSTRAINTS

The agreement ends effective July 30, 2018.  Any delay in implementing the contract reduces the amount of time the City and partners have to implement the scope of work.
