• Other Key Facts:
Financial impacts resulting from reductions in revenues for programs and events, restrictions on gathering and in-person programs, and extended closure of facilities related to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in Parks and Recreation staff layoffs and reduced programming in the 2021/2022 budget. The City’s signature special events, Derby Days and So Bazaar, were both canceled in 2021 due to budget reductions. In addition, staffing is limited due to layoffs.
On April 18, the Governor released event and gathering guidelines specific to special events and gatherings as part of the Healthy Washington Roadmap to Recovery. The new guidelines allow the City to issue special event or park-use permits that allow gatherings in the parks and public spaces. City staff are planning various small activities and working with artists and event producers to activate public spaces that are compliant with all guidelines.
OUTCOMES:
The activities, events, and services enhance the experience for residents and visitors in Downtown Redmond and promote Redmond as a great place to live, work, play, and invest.
