Redmond Climate Action Challenge Overview
OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

This report includes an informational overview and demonstration of the Redmond Climate Action Challenge (Challenge). The Challenge is a fun, interactive platform that allows community members to quantify their carbon footprint, identify specific actions and resources to reduce their impact, and track progress. More than 120 residents have joined the Challenge since its launch in December 2021. The City, in partnership with the Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee, is conducting targeted outreach and developing materials to encourage the formation of challenge teams and further support community members on their sustainability journey.

The Climate Action Challenge implements multiple actions within the Environmental Sustainability Action Plan, including actions C4.4: K-12 Education and C4.6: Climate Awareness for Residents.
OUTCOMES:
The Climate Action Challenge connects community members to various incentives and tools to reduce energy and water use. It also provides a platform to consolidate information about the City’s various program offerings and regional resources. This directly supports progress towards the City’s ESAP goals and targets.

The Challenge has been a standing topic for the Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee since August, when it was first introduced. Staff have also been conducting 1:1 outreach with key community leaders to build awareness. The 1:1 outreach will be ongoing as the City activates the Challenge.
