Facilities Condition Assessment - Decarbonization Analysis Overview

OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

recommendation

The City recently completed a facilities decarbonization analysis in concert with the Facility Condition Assessment. Through the 2023-2024 biennium budget, the City included funding to complete a facility condition assessment (FCA) to inform the City’s maintenance and capital planning work. The budget also included additional funding for a decarbonization and energy efficiency planning component to the FCA. The work was led by MENG Analysis (FCA) and Ecotope (decarbonization planning).

The City of Redmond has adopted aggressive sustainability goals for city operations through Council’s Climate Emergency Declaration, including a goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Fossil fuels used to heat and cool Redmond’s facilities account for nearly 20% of the City’s 2022 greenhouse gas emissions.

OUTCOMES:

This condition assessment will be used to prioritize future maintenance projects and inform long term capital facilities strategic planning.
