The City is providing a recommendation for an increase to the Mayor’s salary based on comparable external market analysis, and a corresponding update to the “EO” Elected Official Pay Plan effective January 1, 2027.

REQUEST RATIONALE:
• Relevant Plans/Policies:
Ordinance 3166 was approved by Council on May 7, 2024. The timing of this request is in accordance with Ordinance 3166, which specifies the Mayor’s salary will be reviewed every even year. The Ordinance further indicates: “The City Council shall reach a decision on any adjustments in the mayor’s salary and benefit compensation in time to incorporate in the biennial budget.”

In 2005, Ordinance 2262 removed the Mayor’s salary from jurisdiction of the Redmond Salary Commission to have Mayor pay set by Council.

The Mayor’s current salary has been increased based on the following ordinance:
Ordinance 3242: Effective 1-1-26, increased Mayor’s salary by 2.3%, to $173,914
OUTCOMES:
A 2026 external market analysis was conducted on the Mayor’s salary by Human Resources. The City recommends increasing the Mayor’s annual base salary to $195,000 to more adequately align with comparable cities in the area. The Mayor’s current salary is $173,914 with an additional $500 car allowance. The information below is being provided to assist Council in determining the change to be made to the Mayor’s salary and corresponding “EO” pay plan.
