2024 Amendments to King County Countywide Planning Policies
OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
recommendation
On Dec. 3, 2024, the Metropolitan King County Council approved and ratified amendments to the King County Countywide Planning Policies. Staff will brief the Council on the amendments at the Feb. 4, 2025, Committee of the Whole meeting. Staff recommends supporting ratification of the amendments; no further action is required by the Council to support ratification.
The King County Countywide Planning Policies were comprehensively updated in 2021 and ratified by King County and cities within King County in 2022. The 2024 amendments to the CPPs:
* Make minor modifications to the Urban Growth Area near Maple Valley to remove three properties from UGA and repeal a property-specific development condition, and
* Make planning requirements for countywide centers more flexible through minor language modifications to eliminate the requirement for a subarea plan.
The amendment concerning countywide centers will benefit Redmond since the City intends to apply for countywide center status for Marymoor Village and the Southeast Redmond industrial area, as called for in the Redmond 2050 Comprehensive Plan.
