III. DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND
Funding
The Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) has authorized distribution of Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) funds to design and construct a paved, shared use path on 40th Street from 156th Avenue to 163rd Avenue. This includes:
* $206,500 for design
* $1,200,000 for construction
The Council accepted the construction funds along with 2018 grant revenue for other projects in Fall of 2018. The design funds were awarded prior to 2018 but have not yet been brought to Council for action. Redmond's recently adopted 2019-2020 Budget fully funds this project and assumes acceptance of the $1,406,500 in grant revenue.
Project
The 40th Street Shared Use Path will provide a comfortable bicycle and pedestrian connection in the Overlake Regional Growth Center that will:
* Increase bicycle access to the Redmond Technology Station.
o Transportation options will play an important role in light rail ridership as there will be a limited number of park and ride stalls (320) which will require riders to find other modes, such as bicycling, to access the Station.
