This New Business Item is for the Purpose of Considering Passage of a Resolution Opposing Initiative 2066, the Ballot Title of Which is as Follows:
Initiative Measure No. 2066 concerns regulating energy services, including natural gas and electrification.
This measure would repeal or prohibit certain laws and regulations that discourage natural gas use, and/or promote electrification, and require certain utilities and local governments to provide natural gas to eligible customers.

Attachment A contains a resolution opposing Initiative 2066. Should the initiative pass, Redmond programs such as Energy Smart Eastside, the Green Building Incentive Program, and other Environmental Sustainability Action Plan efforts may not be permitted. This item has been brought forward to the Council through the Council Policy Proposal process (see Attachment B). At the Business Meeting on October 15, 2024, there will be a public comment in which members of the legislative body or the public must be allowed an approximate equal opportunity to express opposing views.
