TITLE:
title
Regional Fire Authority Formation (RFA)

OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
recommendation
The fire department has the option to detach from the City of Redmond and join with other fire agencies in the area to form a Regional Fire Authority. Doing so will significantly improve the provision of emergency services to the jurisdictions that join and can also provide sizeable budget relief to the former cities.

OUTCOMES:
The City of Redmond does not have the budget capacity to fully fund the needs of the fire department to maintain services levels in a rapidly growing community. In lieu of allowing service levels to decline, a solution is to allow the fire department to detach from the City and form a Regional Fire Authority. This will allow greater efficiencies within the new RFA to provide services in a way that maintain service levels over time but also could provide additional discretionary funding back to the City within the General Fund.
