III. DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND
On June 19, 2018 City Council approved Ordinance No. 2925 amending the RMC 12.14 to establish the processes for permitting and the construction standards for Wireless Communication Facilities and Small Cell Networks.
On September 26, 2018 the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted the Declaratory Ruling and Third Report and Order and Final Rules for "Streamlining State and Local Reviews of Wireless Facility Siting Applications". The Final Rules establish new federal standards for review times, aesthetic standards, administrative fees, and rent for the use of City poles for installation of Small Cell Facilities.
Planning and Public Works staff have been working with the City Attorney's Office and telecommunications service providers to revise the Redmond Municipal Code (RMC) and the Redmond Zoning Code (RZC) to conform to the Final Rules.
