III. DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND

Description
In January 2018, the City will be relocating most recreation programs from the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center (ORSCC) to a new community center located at 6505 176th Ave NE, Redmond, Washington. The new center needs a name that will identify this former college building as the new city community center. Once the name is finalized, staff will begin marketing the building and creating signage with the new name.

Background
The ORSCC will be used by its owner, the Lake Washington School District (LWSD), to accommodate preschool needs beginning in 2019 and the LWSD will start renovation of that building in 2018.

Process
City of Redmond Resolution No. 874 sets policy and procedure for how recreation centers are named. Names must be based on one or more of the following criteria:
* Neighborhood, geographic location
* A natural or geographical feature
* A historical figure, place, event, or other instance of historical of cultural significance
* An individual (living or deceased) who has made a significant land or monetary to the park system or who has made a contribution...
