III. DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND

The City of Redmond and the Lake Washington School District Board (LWSD) typically hold a joint meeting on an annual basis to discuss topics of mutual interest. This continues to reinforce the strong partnership between LWSD and the City.

City and LWSD staff have been meeting over the past several months to prepare the agenda. The City of Redmond and LWSD coordination meeting was held on
September 20, 2019, with Council leadership, city staff, two LWSD board members, the LWSD Superintendent, and LWSD staff to prepare for the upcoming joint meeting.

Following these discussions, the proposed topics were reviewed with Council on September 24, 2019, at the Finance, Administration, and Communications (FAC) Committee of the Whole. Additional input was received regarding shared use of facilities and program and field scheduling.

The key discussion items are:

1. Comprehensive Plan
2. Transportation
3. Workforce Housing
4. Joint Use of Facilities & Program and Field Scheduling
5. Capital Project Planning

Going forward, an action plan will be developed on joint efforts, and quarterly meetings with the City of Redmond and LWSD will continue to track progress.
