III. DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND

The Environmental Sustainability Study is a step in achieving the strategies identified under the Environmental Initiative of the Community Strategic Plan. This body of work will propel efforts forward to reduce the City's carbon footprint and build resiliency into City functions and infrastructure.

The Environmental Sustainability Study will focus on conducting a gap analysis on the City's current environmental sustainability efforts and developing a framework for the roll out of an Environmental Sustainability Program. The framework is a precursor to hiring an Environmental Sustainability Program Manager.

The Study Session will provide an informational briefing on the stakeholder involvement process to date and seek input from Council. The presentation will focus on the following topics:
* Study Status Update
* Stakeholder Involvement Process
* Next Steps

Staff proposes extending the schedule for the Action Plan by one month to generate interest in the project and increase the Let's Connect response rate, similar to the processes during the Community Strategic Plan outreach effort. The draft Action Plan is anticipated in Q1 of 2020 with the one-month extension in schedule.
