III.                     DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND

The City of Redmond - along with the Cities of Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland and Tukwila, Sammamish Plateau Water, and Skyway Water & Sewer District - joined together in 1999 to form Cascade Water Alliance (CWA).  CWA is a municipal corporation and provides safe, clean, reliable water supply to its 380,000 residences and more than 20,000 businesses.  CWA’s mission is to provide water supply to meet current and future needs of our members in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner through partnerships, water efficiency programs, acquiring, constructing and managing water supply infrastructure and fostering regional water planning.

The five cities and two water and sewer districts work to address current and future needs using the water supply efficiently through conservation programs.  Membership is open to any public water utility within the region.   Mayor Angela Birney serves as the City’s elected representative on the Cascade Board of Directors and Councilmember Jeralee Anderson serves as the delegate.

The 2020 briefing will include:

                     Introduction from the new CWA CEO Ray Hoffman;

                     Overview of the formation of CWA in 1999;

                     Overview of the existing structure and function of CWA;

                     Overview of the final draft CWA Strategic Plan; and
