III.                     DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND

Attached is the final report from the public engagement process and the Redmond Community Centers Stakeholders review and recommendation for the Redmond Senior Center building.

At this time, it is recommended the City Council review the report and consider the recommendations at a future City Council meeting to be determined.

Currently, the senior community has been very involved in discussions and the final recommendation for Council consideration, but due to the pandemic and the King County Public Health recommendations for those age 60 and over, postponing this discussion and decision will allow the seniors to be fully engaged in this process at a later date.

In addition, because of the pandemic, the City does not have full knowledge or forecast of what the economic impact will be to the community.  In order for the City Council to make an informed decision, this impact will need to be analyzed prior to committing funds to this large of a project.  This time will also allow us to develop other options to consider if the economic impact limits the City’s ability to fund the current recommendation.

It is anticipated that if we delay this discussion and decision for 2-3 months, we still may be able to deliver the construction of a new building within 3 years.  We may be able to expedite the permitting and/or design development process to accomplish the original goal.
