Approval of a Contract with Muckleshoot Carvers, Le Pas, LLC, in the Amount of $33,000, for the Tribal Carved Art Piece for the Lower Bear Creek Project

OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
recommendation
In 2013, the City of Redmond entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Army Corps of Engineers and other agencies to mitigate adverse effects to the archaeological site at the lower Bear Creek project. One stipulation of the MOA is to create a hand-carved tribal art piece to be installed at the lower Bear Creek project. The city will contract with Muckleshoot carvers, Le Pas, LLC. to carve a Coast Salish House Post. The $33K does not include the installation of the art. A separate company that has experience with installation of art, such as totem poles, will install the House Post Artwork. We estimated $50K for design, carving and install total.

In 2014-15, the lower Bear Creek project relocated 3,000-feet of Bear Creek away from SR520. Prior to project construction, Redmond agreed to the MOA to resolve adverse effects to a 10,000-year old archaeological site. The creation of a hand carved art piece is one of the MOA requirements to be completed by 2023.
