Activating Downtown Redmond in Summer with Events, Activities, and Unique Experiences
OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Parks and Recreation Department is working with contractors, community groups & partners, event producers, and artists to activate public spaces in the Downtown Redmond area. The goal is to highlight events, activities, art, and unique cultural experiences that enhance the vibrancy of Redmond, support small businesses, and are compliant with guidelines outlined in the Governor's Healthy Washington Roadmap to Recovery plan. This campaign, Summers in Redmond, will comprehensively promote all activities, services, and events that occur downtown between July and September 2021.

Financial impacts resulting from reductions in revenues for programs and events, restrictions on gathering and in-person programs, and extended closure of facilities related to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in Parks and Recreation staff layoffs and reduced programming in the 2021/2022 budget. The City's signature special events, Derby Days and So Bazaar, were both canceled in 2021 due to budget reductions. In addition, staffing is limited due to layoffs.
