Adoption of an Ordinance to Revise the Redmond Municipal Code 2.02.050 to Add Council Confirmation of the Chief Operating Officer

a. Ordinance No. 3040: An Ordinance of the City of Redmond, Washington, Amending Redmond Municipal Code (RMC) 2.02.050 to Add Chief Operating Officer to the List of Department Heads to be Confirmed by a Majority of the City Council and Establishing an Effective Date

OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
recommendation
At the May 18, 2021, meeting, Council requested the Redmond Municipal Code (RMC) be revised to include the Chief Operating Officer position in the list of department directors that must be confirmed by the City Council. The Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 35A.12.090 allows confirmation of Mayoral appointments as long as the City has established, by ordinance, the need for the confirmation. RMC 2.02.050 requires all department directors be confirmed by the City Council with the exception of the Chief Operating Officer. A revision to the Redmond Municipal Code is outlined in the attached ordinance (Attachment A).
