Approval of Emergency Services Operating Agreement Between the City of Redmond and King County Fire Protection District 34 - January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2027
OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
recommendation
The City of Redmond provides, under contract, emergency fire suppression, rescue, prevention, emergency management, and emergency medical response services to the citizens of King County Fire Protection District 34 (KCFD34). The two agencies have enjoyed a shared services agreement for over 75 years. The current agreement expires on December 31, 2022, but a proposed successor agreement has been negotiated and is ready for Council review and approval. The proposed five-year agreement is the result of a comprehensive analysis of costs and benefits of providing emergency services within the boundaries of both the City of Redmond and KCFD34. A formula was established to ensure that KCFD34 pays an equitable contractual fee for delivery of services by the Redmond Fire Department.
A review of the present cost formula and assumptions was initiated by the City of Redmond and completed in June 2022. In the event changes to deployment occur that impact efforts of either party to deliver present levels of service, a requirement exists to meet and take steps to mitigate or eliminate the impacts for the benefit of both agencies.
