Authorize the Mayor or his designee to enter into a contract with Sourcewell Purchasing Cooperative for an amount not-to-exceed $1,247,721 to purchase and install the selected synthetic turf at Hartman Park Fields 5 and 6.

III. DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND

Hartman Park is one of the City's most visited recreational facilities. With three lit synthetic sports fields, two tennis courts, multiple basketball hoops, a playground, and wooded walking trails, the park hosts thousands of visitors every year. The synthetic sports fields are a major component of the park and are used year-round.

In 2006, Hartman Park Fields 5 and 6 were converted from natural grass to synthetic turf. After thirteen seasons of play, the synthetic turf has reached the end of its useful life. This is within the expected lifespan of the product for this application given the high usage rates. The existing turf fibers are excessively worn and require replacement to provide a safe and consistent playing surface that can be properly maintained.

On August 13, 2019, the City Council Planning and Public Works Committee was briefed about this project.
